Good film discussion questions are specific enough to start a conversation and open enough to let people disagree. Use five or six prompts per screening; the goal is a real exchange, not finishing the list.
First reactions
What image or moment stayed with you after the credits?
Where did the film first win—or lose—your attention?
Did your reaction change in the hour after watching?
What expectation did the film overturn?
Who would you recommend this film to, and who would you warn away?
Characters and choices
Which character made the most consequential choice?
Whose point of view did the film ask us to trust?
What did the protagonist misunderstand about their own goal?
Which relationship changed most convincingly?
Did any character deserve more or less screen time?
Craft and structure
How did the opening prepare us for the ending?
What did the cinematography communicate without dialogue?
Where did sound or silence change the meaning of a scene?
Which edit, transition, or time jump was most effective?
How would the film change if one major scene were removed?
Themes and context
What question does the film explore without resolving?
Which value does the film reward, and which does it punish?
What does the setting make possible that another setting would not?
How might a different audience read the story differently?
What assumption about its genre does the film challenge?
The final verdict
Did the ending complete the film’s central promise?
Which flaw matters most, and which flaw can you forgive?
What other film would make the best double feature?
Would a second viewing improve the experience?
What one-sentence review captures your honest response?
